OOTD: Ballin’ on a Budget

Scroll down to content

Although I’m pretty much fashion obsessed, I am somewhat allergic to buying clothes full price. I love designer and good quality clothing, but my budget does not afford me to go out and drop hundreds every time I am looking for some new pieces. I also really like to recycle my clothing and get a but of a high when I find a specific piece I have wanted way reduced from the original price. I LOVE the hunt. I am also quite aware of how the “fast fashion” world is having such a negative impact on the environment and third world economies around the world and am trying to do my part to help mitigate that. I have been shopping and selling on eBay and going to Buffalo Exchange and stores like it since I was a teenager. I have recently been using some additional resources to buy and sell pieces such as the Poshmark app and the Material World mail-in service for my high-end designer pieces. I am particularly proud of my newest OOTD outfit as all 4 pieces were found at my discount hunting locations in great pre-owned condition at a fraction of the original cost.

SKIRT: I was perusing the Hillcrest resale stores last week after selling a few items. I stopped into Flashbacks and came across this pre-owned H&M floral printed circle skirt. The material feels so weighty and amazing and hangs perfectly. The original was $129 and I snagged for $14.99.

TOP: I had my eye on this twisted T by Alexander Wang striped button up crop top for quite sometime. It was a pricey piece from the SS17 line and I was tempted to buy full price a couple times. I resisted and instead was able top find this during one of my eBay searches for this favorite designer of mine. The original was $250 and I managed to find for $33.67 with shipping.

SHOES: I have recently felt like I’m relying too much on my mass amounts of black shoes in my daily wardrobe and have been on the hunt for some pops of color.  On a recent trip to Ross looking for baby clothes, I popped by the shoe aisle. They had a plethora of bright shoes that particular day and I picked up these Nine West red Tallon pointy toe pumps.  These were originally $79.99 and I picked up for or $24.99.

SUNGLASSES: I’m a sunglasses collector and Ray Ban has always been a favorite brand of mine. I found these bright yellow Wayfarers while shopping at Buffalo Exchange. I couldn’t find the exact model online anymore, but they are selling these very similar wayfarers for $195 and I scored for only $40 and they are like new!!!

I purchased this entire outfit for $113.65 instead of the retail $653.99! This is why I love discount and resale shopping. I know it takes more time and energy to shop this way but it sure is money saving and environmentally friendly. I encourage you to support your local resale stores and use online selling tools. Clean out your closet once a season and trade those little worn pieces in for some like-new used goods before you hit the mall for the rest of your pieces. its good for the planet and its good for your soul to purge. If you want to learn more about the fashion industry today and the impact it is having on the world, I encourage you to watch the documentary The True Cost.  It’s very eye opening.
