Trippy Mural at Template OB

I usually know a lot about a place and the art I will be shooting with ahead of time. I scour the inter-webs for new murals in town and once I land on something, I research the artist, the art’s location, best time for day for lighting, the direction it faces, options for parking, etc. Its kind of an obsession and why I think so many of my shoots turn out as well as they do. When I came across a post for a gorgeous and off the wall new mural in OB, I was immediately intrigued and added it to my mood board, however, because of this season’s immense busy-ness, I neglected to even look up the location. I had it on my mood board for months and was lucky enough to find literally the most perfect fashion match for this piece by Untitled in Motion….one that I now consider to be in my top 5 for fashion-to-art pairings. STILL i didn’t look up anything about the artist, the location, shoot environment….I do not know why! When Angela (Create with Gusto) and I headed down for the shoot, the most I had done was figure out the address not knowing what it was. When I got there I realized the reason was that something in me needed to let go of some of this pre-planning and just show up with a little mystery and let the magic happen. Im a type-A over planner in all areas of my life, however this time there was no overthinking and it really just had a flow to it. Even in the moment, both Angela and I could see the results were going to be some of our favorites in long while. And we were also blessed to find out the location for the mural was not only a great coffee shop, but also a haven for artists and art-loving community called TEMPLATE. We spent a little time inside and I feel some of the good vibes we felt had been radiating out during our shoot as well. I’m intrigued by this group of talented creatives and what they are building. Not only am I excited to share the photographic results of this trippy good-vibes shoot that I am in LOVE with, but also this exciting new coffee and art collaboration location.
