Whenever I am on a trip of any kind I will always seek out some sort of Art experience. Even on my most recent 8-day trip up the California coast, the main destinations were all the wonders of nature, however my pursuit of art everywhere I go enriches my travels by transforming each trip into a blend of nature and human expression. I long to uncover stories hidden in plain sight and to celebrate the beauty that surrounds us no matter where in the world I find myself. As I was researching our pathway up the coast, there was one special destination I had read about for a long time but had never been near. Nestled just north of San Francisco in Marin County is the immeasurable artist and architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s last public commission. Built in 1957, the Marin County Civic Center was commissioned to centralize thirteen dispersed Marin county departments. This Wright building is an iconic example of mid-20th century modern architecture with a bold retro-futuristic aesthetic and it embodies Wright’s vision of organic architecture, seamlessly blending with its natural surroundings. As a super-fan of midcentury modern architecture and design, I knew I had to experience this building for myself and feature its splendor. I was lucky enough to find a wonderful photographer nearby Jazmin of Full Spectrum Photography who met up with me to capture my vintage vision in spectacular fashion. My favorites from this shoot are an homage to this luminary of architecture.
