I am super excited to post my second blog feature covering another piece from the new RaDD Artwalk near the San Diego Waterfront. Since my last post, RaDD has created a dedicated website for the Artwalk where you can learn about all 19 pieces featured in this free public walk. (Site: RaDD Artwalk). For my second blog feature of this collection, I chose another one of the sculptures that really inspired me. The piece is Hand Drawn Sculpture by artist Ken Kelleher. As a color lover, the unique blue immediately caught my attention, however when I read more about the piece I was even further intrigued by its inception. According to the artist’s own description, “Hand Drawn Sculpture blurs the lines between two and three-dimensional art forms by merging the fluid, gestural lines of drawing with the tangible presence of sculpture. Crafted from interlocking steel, the dynamic and abstract composition creates a playful exploration of the relationship between these mediums.” Turning a 2-dimensional scribble or sketch into 3-dimenstional monumental piece is brilliant in its simplicity. The gestural feel of this sculpture made me think of stretching and dance so my goal for this shoot was to simply join in on its joyful movement. Finding an outfit in the exact color blue that would also give me freedom of movement was challenging, but I feel the final result is as perfect a match as it could get. I’m energized by this infusion of art into San Diego’s downtown area and I am excited to continue to feature these dynamic works.
