The RaDDness continues here on the blog with my third post featuring the new RaDD Artwalk near the San Diego Waterfront. My first 2 features were sculpture works, but for my third blog feature of this collection I chose a mural work. This spectacular mural piece is called Purple Haze by artist Elena Manferdini. Everyone knows how much I love murals and this one really caught my eye because its not relegated to just a wall. Something about how it extends onto the ceiling really takes this to an immersive level. Purple Haze is inspired by the jacaranda tree…a tree know for its seasonal bright purple flowers. This tree is not native to San Diego, but is so prevalent that I have often thought of it as the un-official tree of San Diego. I have always loved these trees so I jumped at the chance to create a look not just inspired by art but also inspired by a local touch of nature. I have to toot my own horn and say that this may be the best fashion match to an artwork of all time…and add the custom jacaranda headband I made and I am all too pleased with myself! I’m still energized by this plentiful public art experience!
