I’ve never been one for New Year’s resolutions, but I am deeply committed to increasing creative endeavors yer over year; especially the kind that feel personal and art-driven. Bringing attention to local artists has always been a huge passion of mine, and creating these art-inspired fashion photo shoots is my way of doing that. It’s when I feel most connected to this city and to the world of art that means so much to me. I’ve missed making space for that dialogue, and I’m intentionally bringing more of it back into my life this year.
At San Diego International Airport’s newly opened Terminal 1, the piece “RISE” by Matthew Mazzotta floats above the main plaza in a luminous canopy, inspired by the purple-striped jellyfish native to our coastline. The layered rings shimmer and shift in the coastal light, hovering somewhere between sculpture and atmosphere. I wore a pink fringe dress that mirrored the sculpture’s soft cascading form and danced with long blue streamers meant to echo both the tentacle-like structure and the natural movement of water. The fringe caught the air the way the installation catches light; the streamers traced fluid lines against the sky. It became less about posing and more about motion. This shoot was also about celebrating new development in San Diego that makes room for more art to be shown, woven directly into the fabric of the city rather than placed on its margins…reminder that growth and creativity can rise together.
