You know when you see something for the first time and it immediately sparks something in your mind and spirit? That’s how I felt the first time I saw a photo of the Whammock installation that would be coming to The New Children’s Museum here in San Diego. Artist Toshiko Horiuchi MacAdam makes innovative fabric art installations strong enough to use as a jungle gym. Its an art installation so beautiful and intricate, but made specifically for play. I visited with my daughter a soon as it opened and I knew I had to plan a shoot here. My friends at the Museum were delighted at the idea and let myself and the amazing photographer Stacy Keck have some fun. I scoured Instagram for the perfect designer and artist to provide the look for this shoot and I stumbled on the creative genius LordvonSchmitt who repurposes vintage afghan blankets into amazing fashion creations. I love his zero waste approach to fashion and the results are breathtaking. By inventing something new from something previously loved but forgotten, its breathing new life into something discarded. This rainbow jumpsuit is so gorgeous and was such a perfect match for the Whammock I felt like I was almost born from it while I was wearing it. I really feel we created photography magic and I really hope you enjoy these photos
